ROSARY APOSTOLATE IN THE
FAMILIES PROGRAM

The Rosary is a powerful prayer which binds families in unity and keeps the light of faith burning in days of darkness.  It gives families hope in times of despair and makes their love for one another more firm and unbreakable.

Our Goal:

- To reach as many families as possible
- To bear witness to the power of the Rosary and to encourage families to become “families that pray together”
- To consecrate every family to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Family visits are usually at 7:00 p.m. in the evening.
This gives volunteers who work full-time the opportunity to serve Our Lady in leading families to holiness of life.
Visits last for one hour and volunteers are free to make their own schedules.

Training and screening will be provided.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Rosary Visitor will visit families via the school and/or via the local Parish.  Families will be visited once a week.  The duration of visits with the families should be one hour. Rosary Visitors must work together with a partner; as a couple (husband and wife); or as a family.  The individual’s willingness and availability will determine the number of family visits made through out the year.

Expectations of the Rosary Visitors:

  • A serious commitment to visit the families on a weekly basis for the period of one year, which can be renewed annually.  This includes a commitment to punctuality.
  • A dress code should be observed.  Dress in a professional manner.
  • The "Rosary Visitor" will be the person who will request permission from Principals and Pastors to advertise and send notices home, so interested families may call to request visits.  The Rosary Visitor will make-up a schedule for family visits.
  • Rosary Visitors will be trained and screened by the Family Coordinators.
  • Rosary Visitors will attend an annual workshop in April.
  • Misconduct will result in termination of services in this program.
  • A Rosary Visitor is expected to behave appropriately within the homes of these families.
  • Rosary Visitors must adhere strictly to the program outlined in the booklet used for these family visits.
  • They are expected to maintain good relations with the Family Coordinators, partners, pastors, and the families they minister to, at all times.
  • Gifts or religious materials are not to be given to the families except those outlined in the program.  You must seek approval from the Rosary Apostolate, Inc. President/Spiritual Director before introducing anything new to the families.
  • If a Rosary Visitor should break any of these rules, an "Incident Report" will be filled out by the Family Coordinators, a copy of it is also sent to the Rosary Apostolate, Inc. Head Office, and a "Termination Notice" will be given to the volunteer.
  • Skills, Experiences and Qualifications:  The person should be a practicing Catholic. They must also have a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and also pray the Rosary on a regular basis.  Also she or he must respect the families.
  • Personal Traits and Qualities:  The people we seek for this position are: people who want to help families to return to the practice of praying the Rosary as a family.  They are, loving, giving, prayerful, humble, peaceful, understanding, forgiving, friendly, wise, trusting, obedient, patient, good, and kind.
  • Orientation and Training:  The Family Coordinators will provide a "Training" workshop using a Training Booklet and a Power Point presentation.  They will run through the routine of a family visit and provide the supplies needed to conduct their family visits.
  • Participant Group:  Rosary Visitors will serve the families within the area they reside - their local Catholic Schools and local Parish.  They will work with a partner, as a couple or as a family.
  • Support Supervision and Evaluation:  The Family Coordinators will support and assist the members in this position.  Every member is screened by their Family Coordinator.  The Rosary Visitors work in pairs so they will constantly be supervising each other - observing interaction with families to ensure that they follow guidelines and presentation requirements.  They will assist each other and encourage each other in this ministry.
  • Length of the Ministry:  The Rosary Visitor may remain in this position as long as he/she is both physically and mentally willing to carry out the duties required.  We expect them to commit themselves for one year.
  • Benefits and Working Conditions:  Rosary Visitors will gain self-confidence in speaking in front of families.  They will meet new families and make new friends.  Their devotion to the Mother of God and her Rosary will increase.  One often walks away from a family visit feeling they have really been a missionary for Our Lady.  It is a wonderful and rewarding ministry.
  • Screening Measures:  Screening will follow the 10-Step Screening Process which includes a Police Vulnerable Sector Check.  Screening will be conducted by Family Coordinators, who will be supported and assisted by the Rosary Apostolate Screening Committee and Spiritual Director.
